FCAAN hails coach Hakeem Busari, Flamingos after historic FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup triumph
The Football Coaches Association of Africa, Nigeria (FCAAN), has congratulated the Flamingos following their historic triumph at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Nigeria defeated Japan 2-1 in Saturday’s final to claim their first-ever title in the competition, with the association describing the achievement as a product of the players’ determination, belief and Nigerian spirit.
FCAAN said the young players had demonstrated the bright future of Nigerian football through their performances, adding that the victory represented more than a trophy but an important milestone for the country's football development.
The association also expressed pride in Coach Akeem Busari, its Director of Coaching Education and Lead Instructor, who guided the Flamingos to the historic achievement.
FCAAN recalled that before the tournament, it had expressed confidence in Busari’s technical ability to lead the team to success in Morocco, following his impressive achievement at the WAFU competition.
The association also noted that Busari was part of the technical crew led by Coach Yemi Tella that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2007, adding that he had now written his own chapter in Nigeria’s football history.
Speaking on the triumph, FCAAN Chief Executive Officer, Danny Nazzal, said the victory had demonstrated the quality of Nigerian coaches when given the opportunity to lead national teams.
“This victory is proof that when Nigerian coaches are trusted, supported, and given the opportunity, they will deliver world-class results. Coach Busari has shown what proper coaching education and belief can achieve,” Nazzal said.
FCAAN Founder, Dr Terry Eguaoje, also congratulated the team, describing the achievement as an investment in the future and a proud moment for Nigerian coaching.
The association extended its congratulations to the players, technical crew, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Nigerians who supported the team throughout the campaign.
It concluded by celebrating the Flamingos as world champions, noting that their historic achievement had brought pride to the country.
