MakTown Flyers charged to raise the bar ahead of BAL Championship in Morocco
Nigeria’s representatives at the upcoming Basketball Africa League Championship, the MakTown Flyers, have been urged to intensify their efforts as they prepare to compete on the continental stage in Morocco.
Basketball promoter and passionate supporter Igoche Mark made the call during a visit to the team’s training camp in Abuja over the weekend. Addressing the players, Mark emphasized the importance of determination and resilience.
“From the technical side, we are solid, and I think what we should do is to put in more effort and tell the world that we are strong, resilient, and we don't back down,” he said.
Mark reassured the team of his unwavering backing, pledging to support their welfare throughout the competition.
“On our part, we will do everything to ensure that you are comfortable. It is a two-way thing—I am giving you the assurance that we play our own part, and you should play your part as well,” he added.
Demonstrating his commitment, Mark revealed plans to personally travel to Morocco to cheer the team on.
“To show my support, I will personally be with you in Morocco and cheer you to victory. I believe this team will make us proud—make Nigeria proud and make MakTown Flyers proud.”
Team captain Bright Akuiete expressed appreciation for the continued encouragement and promised the squad would deliver.
“We appreciate your support, sir, and we promise to make you proud,” he said.
Under the leadership of head coach Abdur Rahman Muhammad, the Flyers earned their place in the BAL after emerging champions of the Nigeria Basketball League in 2025, where they defeated Rivers Hoopers in the final.
Mark had earlier hosted the team to a celebratory reception in Abuja, where he commended club proprietor Akerannan Manusseh Achii for his leadership and motivational drive.
As the countdown to the BAL Championship begins, expectations are high, with fans across Nigeria rallying behind the MakTown Flyers to make a strong statement on Africa’s biggest basketball stage.
