Mr Ibu’s Widow Appeals for Help as Family Struggles With Rent, School Fees
The widow of late Nollywood comic icon John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has made an emotional appeal for support, revealing that she and her children are facing severe financial hardship more than two years after the actor's passing.
The appeal was made during a video interview with content creator King Mitchy, where the late actor's wife and children spoke candidly about the challenges they have endured since losing their family breadwinner.
Speaking with visible emotion, Mrs. Okafor disclosed that the family has been unable to pay their house rent and has lived without electricity for approximately two months after their power supply was disconnected over unpaid bills.
According to her, the difficult circumstances have forced the family to rely on a well for their water needs while they struggle to meet basic living expenses.
"We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They have even cut my lights for two months now," she said.
"There has been no electricity. Every night we go around looking for where to charge our phones. It has not been easy."
One of Mr Ibu's daughters praised her mother for her resilience despite the financial difficulties confronting the family.
"I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, pay our school fees and make us happy," she said.
The widow further revealed that the family's financial situation has begun to affect her children's education, noting that they are at risk of being withdrawn from school due to unpaid fees.
"Right now, they can't go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today," she lamented.
King Mitchy, who shared the family's story, explained that support is being sought to help settle outstanding rent, pay school fees and reconnect electricity to the family's residence.
Mr Ibu, one of Nigeria's most beloved comic actors, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after a prolonged battle with illness.
Widely celebrated for his unique comic style and memorable performances in numerous Nollywood productions, Mr Ibu remains one of the most recognizable figures in the history of Nigeria's film industry.
The family's appeal has since sparked sympathy among fans and well-wishers, many of whom continue to remember the late actor for the joy and laughter he brought to millions of homes across Africa and beyond.
