NFF slams one million Naira sanction on clubs that boycott President Federation Cup
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has introduced strict financial sanctions for clubs that fail to honour matches in the national preliminaries of the 2026 President Federation Cup.
According to the NFF’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, any club that fails to show up for a scheduled match at the national preliminary stage will face a fine of N1 million.
David disclosed this in a statement on Monday while outlining the schedule and regulations guiding the country’s oldest domestic football competition.
The NFF also confirmed that the state preliminary rounds of the tournament will run from March 22 to April 26, with matches across the country expected to determine representatives for the national stage.
Under the new guidelines, clubs that complete registration for the competition at the state level but fail to honour any fixture will be sanctioned with a N500,000 fine.
The football body stressed that the measures are aimed at ensuring discipline, proper organisation, and commitment from participating teams in the competition.
The state finals are expected to take place on Saturday, April 25, or Sunday, April 26, after which each State Football Association, including that of the Federal Capital Territory, will submit two representatives for the national phase of the tournament.
The President Federation Cup remains one of Nigeria’s most prestigious football competitions, providing clubs across different tiers of the domestic football structure the opportunity to compete on a national stage.
