NWF President, Ibrahim, Iquaibom elected into IWF Committees

 

 

The President, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Dr Abdul Ibrahim Aladi has been elected as the Chairman of the Gender Equity Commission of the International Weightlifting Federation at the end of the IWF Electoral Congress held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

 

The hard working NWF President polled 122 votes to emerge first among the list of the five elected officials of the Gender Equity Commission of the IWF from five different countries and has become its Chairman.

 

Dr Ibrahim finished first and has been elected alongside Delmis Rodriguez Pargas (Cuba) who polled 114 votes; Brunella Mauricci (Peru) who had 108 votes; Egypt's Wafaa Mahmoud Mohamed Moussa with 103 votes and Zukhra Abdullaeva of Uzbekistan who had 85 votes. They will serve for a period of four years. 

 

Meanwhile, NWF's Lawrence Iquaibom has also been elected into the Coaching and Research Committee of the IWF also. Iquaibom who also went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the IWF Electoral Congress 2025 was unanimously elected as a member of the Committee. 

 

Speaking on the double victory for Nigeria, the NWF President, Dr Ibrahim Abdul Aladi said it was a victory for Nigerian Weightlifting family and he thanked everyone that supported their cause during their bid to win the election into both committees. 

 

Abdul who was physically present to supervise the Weightlifting event of the 22nd National Sports Festival tagged Ogun 2024 in Shagamu before departing for Saudi Arabia for the IWF Electoral Congress 2025 expressed his gratitude for the success recorded by him and Lawrence Iquaibom stating that he would continue to ensure the NWF gets the needed recognition across the world.

 

"I am deeply delighted with my election into the Gender Equity Commission and that of Lawrence Iquaibom into the Coaching and Research Committee. This is for Nigeria Weightlifting Federation and we are thrilled this is happening now," Dr Ibrahim Abdul told NWF Media.

 

"We shall continue to contribute our quota to the development of the sport in Nigeria and beyond. I am happy we fought the battle and won for Nigeria."
