Promotion race heats up as 2025 NWFL Championship reaches Matchday three
The chase for promotion to the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership enters a decisive phase on Wednesday, September 16, 2025, with Matchday Three fixtures set to shape the final picture.
Sunshine Queens have already booked their swift return to the top flight, leaving the spotlight on other contenders such as Castmog Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens, Imo Striker Queens, and Ghetto Tigers, all pushing to make history.
Action will unfold across the Umuahia and Abiriba centres on Wednesday, with the winners of Groups A1, A2, and B1 expected to emerge. Group B2, the only five-team pool, will continue until Sunday.
Castmog Ladies remain perfect with two wins in two and need just a point against Gallant Queens to seal their Premiership ticket. First Mahi Babes, buoyed by a narrow win over Gallant, face Royal Queens in a must-win clash while hoping Castmog slip.
True to their pedigree, Sunshine Queens have secured promotion with a game to spare, replicating Ibom Angels’ feat last season. Their final clash with Kwara Ladies, who are yet to win, is now academic.
Hosts Ahudiyannem Queens top the group with three points and need only a draw against Wazbak International to go through. Wazbak must win outright to upset the odds. Pelican Stars and Chosen Generation Angels, both chasing pride, will battle for consolation points.
Imo Striker Queens lead with six points from two games, including a hard-fought win over Osun Babes. Ghetto Tigers, with four points after a dramatic comeback against Delta Babes, remain in the hunt. Moje Queens also retain slim hopes but must beat Delta Babes to survive. For Delta, still mourning the loss of coach Gibbor Alfred Poto, it’s now about pride.
