Super Eagles B conclude CHAN 2024 preparation with 2-2 draw against Zanzibar

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B wrapped up their preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a 2-2 draw in their final warm-up game.

The team, led by head coach Eric Chelle, looked dominant in the first half, taking a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Anas Yusuf of Nasarawa United and Adedayo Olamilekan of Remo Stars. Both players made the most of their chances, providing an early spark and a confidence boost ahead of Saturday’s CHAN opener.

Chelle, who made five changes to the starting lineup from Monday’s trial match, handed starts to Akanni Kudus, Egbe Manyo, Malik Jabbar, Vincent Temitope, and Anas Yusuf, as part of his ongoing assessment of squad depth and readiness.

In the second half, the coach rotated his entire bench to give all players a run-out and ensure match sharpness across the squad. However, the momentum dropped, and the opposition capitalised, clawing their way back to level the game.

Chelle, mindful of avoiding last-minute injuries, was said to have instructed his players to ease the tempo in the closing stages, urging caution as the focus shifts to the tournament proper.

The Super Eagles B will now turn their attention to their opener against defending champions Senegal, set for the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

They will remain at the same venue for their second match against Sudan on August 12 before rounding off the group stage against Congo on August 19 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
