Super Eagles rise to 38th in latest FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed three places to 38th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings released on Wednesday.

Nigeria’s rise comes on the back of their November fixtures, where Eric Chelle’s side gained valuable momentum ahead of the year-end update. Their win over Gabon and the draw against DR Congo, which was later settled via penalties in the CAF 2026 World Cup playoffs, provided just enough ranking points to lift them up the table.

Although the Super Eagles fell short of securing a spot in the intercontinental playoffs, the month’s performances still boosted their global standing.

Morocco remains Africa’s highest-ranked team with 1,713.12 points, followed by Senegal in 19th place (1,648.07). Egypt sits 34th (1,520.68), Algeria follows in 35th (1,516.37), while Nigeria completed the continent’s top five with 1,502.46 points.

The Super Eagles now hold a slim edge over Tunisia, who sit 40th with 1,497.13 points and remain well ahead of rivals like Côte d’Ivoire (1,489.59) and DR Congo (1,442.50).

Globally, European champions Spain retain the No. 1 spot, with world champions Argentina and France close behind. Brazil climbed two places to fifth after their recent results, creating room for other nations to shift upward.

Eric Chelle’s men will have another opportunity to climb the rankings when they return to action at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
