Super Falcons receive WAFCON victory reward as fresh goal bonuses fuel title defence
The Nigeria's senior women's national team have received the financial rewards promised by the Federal Government for their historic triumph at the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), giving the African champions an extra lift as they begin the defence of their continental title in Morocco.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Tuesday that Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, alongside NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, presented the rewards to the players and officials at the team's training camp in Rabat.
Beyond fulfilling the outstanding promises, the NSC has also unveiled a new performance-based incentive for the ongoing 2026 WAFCON. Sources within the Super Falcons camp revealed that the team will earn $5,000 for every goal scored during the group stage, with additional bonuses expected as the competition progresses.
The payments fulfil the commitments made after Nigeria's memorable comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the 2024 WAFCON final. The Super Falcons recovered from two goals down to secure a dramatic 3-2 win in Rabat, claiming a record-extending 10th African title.
In celebration of that achievement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced a $100,000 cash reward for each player, while members of the squad and coaching staff were also honoured with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The rewards package also included $50,000 for each of the 11 team officials, a ₦360 million donation from the Nigeria Governors' Forum, and a promise of a three-bedroom house for every player in recognition of the team's remarkable success.
With those commitments now fulfilled and fresh incentives introduced for the current campaign, Justin Madugu's side will be aiming to channel the added motivation into another successful title run as they chase an unprecedented 11th WAFCON crown in Morocco.
