12 Nigerian coaches selected for FIVB Level I certification course in Ghana
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has announced that 12 Nigerian volleyball coaches have been selected to participate in the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Level I Coaching Certification Course scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from August 3 to 8, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman of the NVBF Media and Publicity Committee, Godspower Odedede, on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
According to the federation, the certification programme forms part of its strategic efforts to strengthen volleyball coaching in Nigeria, with a special focus on increasing the number of qualified female coaches.
The NVBF noted that female volleyball coaches remain underrepresented in the country, making the programme a significant investment in empowering women and enhancing the nation's coaching capacity for sustainable development of the sport.
The statement revealed that the FIVB made the final selection of 12 participants from an initial list of 15 candidates submitted after screening by the Chairman of the NVBF Technical Committee/Secretariat.
The selected coaches comprise national team players, former international athletes, and coaches from various volleyball league clubs across Nigeria.
The delegation includes seven women and five men, reflecting the federation's commitment to producing a new generation of technically proficient coaches while promoting greater female participation in volleyball coaching.
The participants are Dorothy Egbum (Team Leader), Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dickyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua, and George Samson Malaika.
Congratulating the successful candidates, the NVBF expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical skills they will acquire during the programme will contribute significantly to the continued growth and development of volleyball in Nigeria.
"The NVBF congratulates the selected participants and wishes them a successful and rewarding certification programme. The Federation is confident that the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the course will significantly contribute to the continued growth and development of volleyball in Nigeria," the statement said.
