Mame Moussa Cisse steps down as Senegal coach after WAFCON 2026 group stage exit

Senegal Women’s national team head coach Mame Moussa Cissé has stepped down from his role following the Teranga Lionesses’ disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Cissé’s departure comes after Senegal failed to progress beyond the group stage, finishing third in their group with four points from three matches.

The Teranga Lionesses recorded one win, one draw, and one defeat during the tournament, ending their campaign with a goalless draw against hosts Morocco.

Despite a resilient defensive display in their final 0-0 draw against Morocco, Senegal’s four-point tally was not enough to secure a place in the knockout rounds, bringing Cissé’s tenure to an end.
