The Obi Oha Royal Council of the Ihitteaforukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State will confer a prestigious chieftaincy title on Nigerian diplomat Robert Terlumun Akpenpuun and his wife, Mercy Dooshima Akpenpuun, in recognition of their service, integrity and commitment to peace.

Akpenpuun is an Assistant Comptroller with the Nigeria Immigration Service and currently serves as Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

In addition to his diplomatic responsibilities, Akpenpuun has made notable contributions to Nigerian football administration. He has served as a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match commissioner and as a protocol officer with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In February 2026, he successfully completed the CAF–WAFU Zone B General Coordinators Training Course in Porto-Novo, Republic of Benin, after being nominated by WAFU Zone B President Ibrahim Musa Gusau as part of a five-member NFF delegation.

The couple will receive the title "Ezi Enyi of Ihitteaforukwu Ancient Kingdom," which translates to "Good Friend of the Kingdom."

According to an official letter dated July 29, 2026, the honour was approved by the paramount ruler of the kingdom, Eze Dr. O. D. Nwandu (Akaraka III). The letter, signed by the Chairman of the Chieftaincy Conferment Committee, Clan Chief Iginetus Okafor, stated that the recognition was bestowed in appreciation of Akpenpuun's exemplary public service, integrity, and dedication to fostering peace and friendship.

As part of the ceremony, Robert and Mercy Akpenpuun will be formally inducted into the kingdom's College of Chiefs.

The investiture is scheduled for Wednesday, December 30, 2026, at the Obi Oha Royal Palace in Umuezeariam, Ihitteaforukwu. The event will coincide with the first anniversary of the coronation of Eze Nwandu and is expected to attract members of the diplomatic corps, traditional rulers, community leaders and other distinguished guests.
