Abia State Government appoints Emmanuel Deutsch as Enyimba FC coach
Uncertainty continues to trail Nigeria Premier Football League giants Enyimba International FC after the Abia State Government confirmed the appointment of Cameroonian tactician Emmanuel Deutsch as the club’s new head coach.
The latest development comes barely weeks after Enyimba’s management unveiled former Crown FC boss Deji Ayeni as the club’s substantive manager, deepening the confusion surrounding the Aba-based side’s technical leadership.
Ayeni had been working behind the scenes since last year following a contractual dispute between the club and former head coach Stanley Eguma. However, he only officially assumed full control last week, overseeing his first match in a goalless draw against Barau FC in Aba.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government confirmed the new appointment.
“The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new Head Coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba,” the statement read.
It added that the decision forms part of a broader strategy to reposition the club technically and competitively.
“The appointment of Coach Deutsch Emmanuel is part of the strategic efforts to reinvigorate the technical direction of the club, strengthen its competitive edge, and lay a solid foundation for long-term success. He has served as Technical Adviser and Head Coach with reputable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, delivering impressive results. His track record includes several recognitions, notably the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025.”
Deutsch, a vastly experienced coach, holds CAF A, B, and C licenses and has previously handled Nigerian top-flight sides Abia Warriors and Sunshine Stars.
With this unexpected announcement, questions now surround the immediate future of Ayeni at the nine-time Nigerian champions, as clarity over the club’s coaching structure remains elusive.
Meanwhile, Enyimba’s on-field struggles continued on Sunday as they suffered a 2–0 defeat away to Niger Tornadoes in Ayeni’s second official match in charge.
