Chidinma Okeke, Rinsola Babajide, Shukurat Oladipo lift major titles abroad

It was a weekend to remember for Nigerian players abroad, as several Super Falcons stars celebrated silverware across Europe and North America, headlined by Shukurat Oladipo, Rinsola Babajide and Chidinma Okeke.

In Italy, Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide were crowned Coppa Italia champions with AS Roma Femminile after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Juventus in Sunday’s final at the Romeo Menti Stadium in Vicenza.

Oladipo played the entire match in a disciplined defensive display, while Babajide watched from the bench as Roma completed a domestic double, having already clinched the Serie A title earlier in the season.

After an intense and cagey first half failed to produce a goal, Roma eventually found the breakthrough in the 80th minute. Manuela Giugliano reacted quickest inside the box to slot home the winner and hand the Giallorosse their third Coppa Italia crown and second domestic double in club history.

Across the Atlantic in Mexico, Super Falcons defender Chidinma Okeke also enjoyed continental glory as Club América Femenil defeated Washington Spirit 5-3 in a thrilling CONCACAF W Champions Cup final at Estadio Hidalgo.

Okeke came off the bench during the pulsating encounter as América became the first Mexican club to win the competition.

The final also featured Nigerian duo Gift Monday and Deborah Abiodun on the Washington Spirit side. Monday made a substitute appearance, while Abiodun, recently back from injury, was named in the squad but remained unused.

América raced into an early lead through Aylín Aviléz and Geyse before Washington Spirit mounted a spirited comeback. Goals from Sofia Cantore and a Rosemonde Kouassi brace swung momentum toward the American side, but the Mexican champions responded strongly in the closing stages.

Geyse restored parity after capitalising on a defensive lapse before Irene Guerrero and an unfortunate own goal from Esme Morgan sealed a dramatic victory for América.

For Okeke, the triumph capped an unforgettable week after she also helped América secure the Liga MX Femenil Clausura title just days earlier.

Earlier in the tournament, Osinachi Ohale and Chinwendu Ihezuo were part of the Pachuca side that claimed third place with a dominant 3-0 win over NJ/NY Gotham FC. Although both Nigerians remained on the bench, Pachuca ended their campaign on a high in front of their home supporters.

Club América’s historic triumph also secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup and the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2028, where they are set to compete alongside European champions FC Barcelona Femení.
