Halimatu Ayinde makes history as BK Hacken clinch inaugural UEFA Women's Europa Cup
Nigeria midfielder Halimatu Ayinde has etched her name into European football history, becoming a UEFA club competition winner after BK Häcken secured the inaugural UEFA Women’s Europa Cup title.
Häcken sealed the crown with a 3–2 victory over Hammarby IF in Friday’s second leg at the Hisingen Arena, completing a 4–2 aggregate triumph in an all-Swedish final.
Although Ayinde, who only joined the club in January, was not listed in the matchday squad, her contribution across the campaign earns her a place among a select group of Nigerian players to have conquered Europe. She becomes just the second Super Falcons star to win a UEFA club title, following in the footsteps of Asisat Oshoala, a three-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner with Barcelona.
The final itself lived up to its billing. Häcken carried a slender 1–0 advantage into the second leg after Felicia Schröder’s 22nd-minute strike in the first meeting at the Stockholm Arena on April 25. They built on that edge in front of their home fans, holding off a spirited Hammarby side to secure a memorable aggregate victory.
For Ayinde, it marks a significant milestone both personally and for Nigerian women’s football as more players continue to leave their imprint on the European stage.
