Jordan invitation offers Eric Chelle early test as Super Eagles reconvene amid FIFA petition wait

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, will return to camp on March 24 as attention shifts to the Four Nation Invitational Tournament in Amman, Jordan a competition that could offer head coach Eric Chelle an important platform to steady the team amid ongoing off-field uncertainties.

The three time African champions are scheduled to participate during the March 2026 FIFA international window, with fixtures lined up against Iran and tournament hosts Jordan.

Nigeria will begin their campaign against Iran on March 27 at the 17,000 capacity Amman International Stadium, before rounding off their involvement against Jordan on March 31.

A senior team official disclosed that preparations will begin immediately the FIFA window opens, with players and technical crew expected to assemble in Jordan on March 24 and remain in camp throughout the duration of the competition.

“All arrangements are tied to the FIFA window. Camp opens March 24, and the players and coaches will stay together until March 31,” the official revealed.

The tournament is set to go ahead despite unresolved contractual discussions between Chelle and the Nigeria Football Federation, with the Franco-Malian tactician still expected to oversee the squad in Amman.

Nigeria’s participation also comes at a time when the country awaits FIFA’s verdict on its protest against DR Congo for allegedly fielding ineligible players during their World Cup playoff clash in Morocco, which Nigeria lost via penalties.

Beyond the immediate fixtures, the Amman tournament presents a timely opportunity for the Super Eagles to regain competitive rhythm, assess tactical options, and reinforce squad cohesion ahead of crucial international engagements later in the year.
