Musa Nimrod rallies volleyball stakeholders as National League hits ground running

President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod, has hailed the ongoing National Division 1 & 2 Volleyball League as a milestone in the nation’s volleyball development journey, calling on all stakeholders to unite in driving the sport to greater heights.

Speaking on the sidelines of the competition at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the CAVB Zone 3 Secretary described the progress witnessed in this year’s league as a direct result of the federation’s grassroots development programmes and support initiatives, which are now yielding tangible results.

Nimrod stressed that the league provides a viable platform for clubs nationwide — including those without elite players or Premier League resources — to grow and showcase their talent. He expressed particular delight at the rise in the number of female teams, noting it as a symbol of hope and a promising future for women’s volleyball in Nigeria.

“Our efforts are bearing fruit, as we continue to churn out young players who are hungry for the game. These boys and girls now have the opportunity to grow within the sport, gain vital experience, and develop into elite athletes with a champion’s mindset,” Nimrod said.

He underlined the importance of a structured league system in building a sustainable talent pipeline, declaring that the era of drafting players straight into the national teams or Premier League without proper competitive development is over.

Acknowledging that growth comes with challenges, Nimrod urged patience from the volleyball community and welcomed constructive contributions.

“We are witnessing a gradual revolution in Nigerian volleyball. The sport is growing, and with it comes a new generation of coaches, vibrant young players, and energetic officials,” he noted.

The NVBF President extended his appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff for crucial collaboration, and pledged continued federation support to complement sponsors’ efforts in ensuring smooth league operations. He also commended state governments, agencies, and private clubs for their commitment despite economic challenges.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day, but one day, we will have our Rome if we all come together. Let’s join hands to make history,” he concluded.
