NWFL Premiership Matchday nine delivers derby drama and big wins
Matchday 9 of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership produced a thrilling round of fixtures, with goals, derby drama, and statement victories across the country.
At the Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa Amazons claimed a pulsating 4–2 win over FC Robo Queens in a six-goal contest. Sunday Ohunene struck early in the 2nd minute, but Joy Iortyom levelled for Robo in the 14th. Ayatsea Hembafan restored Nasarawa’s lead two minutes later, before Jumoke Alani made it 3–1 just before the break. Bibiana Odoh added a fourth immediately after the restart, and although Rafiu Tosin pulled one back late on, the visitors slipped to back-to-back away defeats.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels brought Edo Queens’ six-match winning streak to an end with a hard-fought 2–1 victory in the South-South derby at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Abasiofon Uwah opened the scoring in the 14th minute, but Atume Doosuur equalised for Edo in the 26th, netting her sixth goal of the season. Uwah struck again on the stroke of half-time to complete her brace and seal all three points for the hosts.
Defending champions, Bayelsa Queens responded in style with a 2–0 win over Ekiti Queens in Yenagoa. Bankole Sofiat broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, and Delight Isaac doubled the advantage in the 55th to secure a comfortable victory.
Remo Stars Ladies continued their impressive run in Lagos, cruising to a 3–0 South-West derby win over Dannaz Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Aishat Animashaun opened the scoring early and later added a stunning free-kick in the 75th minute, while Daniella Fagbenro wrapped up the win late on. It was Remo’s third straight victory and fourth match unbeaten.
In Makwada, Adamawa Queens edged Heartland Queens 2–1, with Omon Afensimi scoring twice to secure the points, despite an own goal briefly bringing Heartland back into the contest.
Naija Ratels celebrated their first win of the season at the Bwari Stadium, as Omeje Chukwube’s second-half strike earned a 1–0 victory over Pacesetter Queens, who remain winless.
A goal fest unfolded in Aba, where Abia Angels overpowered Ahudiyannem Queens 5–2. Winner David starred with a first-half hat-trick, while Blessing Saleh and Obianuju Akwubo added late goals. Chiwendu Orji and Tobi Oghenerugba replied for the visitors.
Elsewhere, Osun Babes and Delta Queens shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw in Ile-Ogbo, while Confluence Queens and Sunshine Queens played out a goalless stalemate in Iyahmo Sunshine’s fifth draw of the campaign.
The NWFL Premiership will now take a one-week break, with Matchday 10 fixtures set to resume on 11 February 2026.
