NWFL clears Ekiti Queens' home return, reopens gates for Ibom Angels fans
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has given Ekiti Queens the green light to return to their home ground in Ado-Ekiti, bringing an end to a venue sanction that forced the team to play their home fixtures away in Abeokuta.
The disciplinary measure was imposed following breaches of matchday organisation and security protocols at their designated venue. After serving the sanction and meeting the league’s operational and safety requirements, the southwest side has now been cleared to host matches at home, starting from Matchday 12 of the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership season.
Ekiti Queens are expected to formally mark their return in Matchday 15, when they welcome regional rivals Pacesetter Queens in what promises to be a lively homecoming in front of their fans.
Meanwhile, the league has also lifted the spectator ban placed on Ibom Angels’ home matches in Uyo. The restriction had been enforced after incidents involving crowd control and violations of matchday conduct, which led to games being played behind closed doors.
Following a review of the club’s matchday arrangements, including improved security measures and compliance with league regulations, the NWFL confirmed that Ibom Angels have met all necessary conditions.
As a result, supporters will be allowed back into the stadium from Matchday 12, when Ibom Angels host Adamawa Queens on Wednesday.
The NWFL reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism, safety, and integrity across all venues, while commending both clubs for adhering to the corrective measures during their sanctions.
