NWFL cracks down as post match clash lands Ekiti, Pacesetter Queens players in trouble

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has taken swift disciplinary action after a post-match altercation marred Wednesday’s Premiership clash between Ekiti Queens and Pacesetter Queens in Ado Ekiti.

What should have been a routine Matchday 15 fixture at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium where Ekiti Queens secured a 2-0 victory quickly descended into chaos after the final whistle. Teslimot Balogun of Pacesetter Queens and Ekiti Queens’ Busari Suliyat became central figures in a heated confrontation that disrupted the closing moments of the encounter.

Match officials reported that both players engaged in violent and unsporting conduct immediately after the game, prompting a full review by the league body. After examining the referee’s report, the match commissioner’s account, and available video footage, the NWFL concluded that the incident brought the game into disrepute.

The league responded by handing both players a two-match suspension, effective from Matchday 16.

Reaffirming the league’s stance, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, stressed that acts of violence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“Any act of violence has no place in our league and will be met with firm disciplinary action to protect the integrity of the game and the safety of all participants,” Shabi stated.

The sanctions serve as a clear reminder of the NWFL’s commitment to maintaining discipline as the season heads into its decisive stretch.
