Perfect starts, late goals and goalkeeping heroics light up NWFL Premiership Matchday two
Edo Queens returned to winning ways, Robo Queens maintained their perfect start to the season, while Rivers Angels opened their campaign with a hard-fought win, as Matchday 2 of the NWFL Premiership delivered goals, late drama and standout goalkeeping across all centres on Wednesday.
Edo Queens returned to winning ways in Benin City, edging Heartland Queens 1–0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Atume Doosuur’s well-taken 15th-minute header from a corner made the difference.
Robo Queens stayed dominant with a commanding 4–0 victory over Confluence Queens at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Favour Nkwocha broke the deadlock in the 27th minute before Tosin Rafiu doubled the advantage just before half-time. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then sealed the win with two quickfire goals in the 54th and 56th minutes, leaving the Lagos side unbeaten and yet to concede this season.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers Angels began their league journey with a narrow but deserved 1–0 win over Naija Ratels at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Sharon Onwere rose highest to head home from an Ifeoma Polinus corner in the 55th minute, handing the Jewel of Rivers a perfect start to their campaign.
Back in Lagos, Dannaz Ladies were held to a goalless draw by Nasarawa Amazons. Goalkeeper Selimot Jimoh was the standout performer, pulling off several crucial saves, including a last-minute stop to deny Faridat Abdulwahab, to ensure the hosts earned a point.
In Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti Queens rescued a late 1–1 draw against Adamawa Queens at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium. Mary Sunday put the visitors ahead in the 55th minute, but Ekiti were rewarded for their pressure when a stoppage-time own goal from Favour Godwin levelled the game.
It was also stalemate in Asaba, where Delta Queens and Sunshine Queens played out a 0–0 draw at the Stephen Keshi Stadium. Sunshine’s Bright Etim impressed in goal, pulling off vital saves to keep the scoreline intact.
In Ikenne, Remo Stars Ladies secured their first win of the season with a 1–0 triumph over Abia Angels, courtesy of Aisha Animashaun’s 25th-minute strike, her first league goal.
Ibom Angels grabbed a late win in Uyo, defeating Pacesetter Queens 1–0 thanks to an 87th-minute strike from Helen Daniel.
In Ile-Ogbo, Osun Babes, led by coach Bankole Olowookere, claimed a 1–0 victory over Ahudiyannem Queens. Nofisat Tijani converted an 87th-minute penalty after a handball in the area.
Bayelsa Queens were idle this matchday following Castmog’s relegation, which reduced the fixtures in their group.
