Three Nigerian players from Unicorns FC lands in UK for Nottingham Forest trials
Nottingham Forest, currently ranked fourth in the English Premier League with 60 points, is poised to evaluate three Nigerian players from Unicorns Football Club of Ilorin.
Left winger Olamide Sunday Olasehinde, central defender Sulyman Kehinde Quadri, and midfielder Sanni Sukanmi Adebayo have arrived in the UK for a two-week trial with the club.
Unicorns FC's CEO, Victor Awoniyi, expressed enthusiasm about the trials, aiming to highlight the wealth of football talent in Nigeria.
This trial is part of a broader trend, as Unicorns FC has successfully sent at least nine players abroad in the past year.
Team secretary Suleiman Atunrase is accompanying the players during their UK stay, allowing them to concentrate on their performance.
This opportunity arises as English football continues to draw top talents from around the globe.
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who is pleased with this opportunity, noted that representing Nigeria in significant international tournaments like the Under-15 and Under-17 World Cups was a crucial moment in his career.
However, he acknowledged that many young talents in Nigeria are not as fortunate.
"With Nigeria's extensive pool of talented individuals, reaching the national team is a significant accomplishment. By creating opportunities for these young talents, we are not only allowing them to demonstrate their skills but also helping to realize their dreams," Awoniyi stated.
He further emphasized the importance of providing platforms for young talents to develop and flourish, which is vital for nurturing the next generation of football stars.
"It is an honor to be involved in initiatives that assist young players in achieving their aspirations and pursuing their passions," Awoniyi added.
He concluded by mentioning that plans are underway to send more players across Europe to help them fulfill their dreams.
