Salihu Moh Lukman, the former APC National Vice Chairman (North West), has expressed serious concerns about the potential leadership of opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Kayode Fayemi, suggesting they could lead the country in a manner even worse than past presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, and the current President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement reacting to the current political landscape, Lukman criticized these politicians for putting their personal ambitions ahead of the much-needed democratic reforms.
He argued that their push to form a new opposition coalition appeared more focused on self-interest than genuine efforts to improve governance.
Lukman claimed that many of the opposition leaders were "highly complicit" and lacked the credentials to be seen as better political leaders. He also pointed to their past records in governance, saying they failed to inspire confidence.
He warned that without strengthening Nigeria's political institutions, the country might be doomed to elect another ineffective leader in 2027.
Lukman argued that simply forming an opposition coalition with the goal of removing President Tinubu would be futile if it didn’t address the deeper issues of governance.
Lukman also echoed Peter Obi’s viewpoint that opposition unity shouldn’t just be about power struggles, but about enacting reforms that truly benefit Nigerians.
“Even if opposition politicians unite to defeat APC and President Tinubu in 2027, the country may end up with another ineffective leader, or perhaps someone even worse,” Lukman concluded.
