Abia Warriors held held at home as Wikki snatch point in Umuahia

Abia Warriors’ struggles at the Umuahia Township Stadium continued on Wednesday as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against visiting Wikki Tourists.

Imama Amapakabo’s men had gone into the midweek fixture eager to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Nasarawa United, but they were once again left frustrated by a resilient opponent who worked tirelessly to earn a valuable away point.

After a cagey opening half, the hosts finally broke the deadlock six minutes after the restart when Emeka Obioma finished clinically to put the third-placed side ahead. However, the lead lasted barely five minutes as former Warriors forward Taheer Abubakar punished his old club with a well-taken equaliser.

Despite pushing for a late winner, Abia Warriors could not find a breakthrough and were forced to share the spoils, extending their worrying home run to just one win in their last seven NPFL matches.

Elsewhere, Enyimba showed resilience to fight back and hold second-placed Nasarawa United to a 1-1 draw at the Lafia Township Stadium. The home side, who had earlier missed a penalty, eventually took the lead through JoFrank Istifanus, his second goal in as many games before Kalu Nweke converted from the spot to restore parity for the Aba giants.

In Kano, former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa struck the decisive goal as Kano Pillars edged Katsina United, while Vincent Temitope’s brace powered Plateau United to a 2-1 victory over Rangers International in Jos. The win lifted Gbenga Ogunbote’s side out of the relegation zone, although Rangers remain fourth on the table.

The remaining Matchday 23 fixtures will be concluded on Thursday, with the previously scheduled clash between Rivers United and El Kanemi Warriors postponed to a later date.
