Amy Okonkwo shines as Dallas Wings fall to Atlanta Dreams

Nigerian forward Amy Okonkwo continued her impressive WNBA start despite the Dallas Wings’100–78 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Friday.

Okonkwo, re-signed to a second seven-day hardship contract, delivered 11 points, a career-high six rebounds, one assist, and one steal, shooting 44% from the floor. The performance marked her third consecutive double-digit scoring game, placing her in rare company as only the third undrafted player in the past 20 seasons to average at least 11.3 points across her first three league appearances.

The 27-year-old first joined the Wings on August 21 and has quickly made an impact posting eight points in just nine minutes on debut against the Seattle Storm, then following up with 12 points versus the Golden State Valkyries and a career-best 14 against the Connecticut Sun.

Friday’s contest was another difficult night for the short-handed wings, who remain heavily affected by injuries. Maddy Siegrist paced Dallas with 23 points, while rookie star Paige Bueckers contributed 16 points and 10 assists for her second double-double of the season.

For Atlanta, Rhyne Howard powered the Dream into the 2025 WNBA Playoffs with a dominant all-around display of 24 points and a career-high six blocks.

Though the Wings struggles persist, Okonkwo’s emergence stands out as a bright spark, her energy and scoring punch, strengthening her case for a permanent roster spot beyond hardship terms. Dallas next travel to face the Minnesota Lynx on Monday, September 1.
