Bulgarian Club Botev Plovdiv Sign Nigerian Michael Okoh, Hand Him Iconic No. 9 Shirt
Bulgarian First League side Botev Plovdiv have officially completed the signing of Nigerian striker Michael Okoh from Greek club Asteras Aktor, with the forward immediately handed the club's prestigious No. 9 jersey ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The two-time Bulgarian champions confirmed the transfer in an announcement on their official website, revealing that an undisclosed fee was paid to secure the services of the 23-year-old Nigerian attacker.
Okoh arrives in Bulgaria after spending two years with Asteras Aktor, where he featured for both the club's senior and reserve teams while continuing his development in Greek football.
The move marks another important step in the striker's European career, having previously played for Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic and Mosta FC in Malta before joining Asteras Aktor in August 2024.
A product of Divine Praise Academy in Nigeria, Okoh has steadily built a reputation as a promising centre-forward, with Botev Plovdiv now betting on his goalscoring ability to strengthen their attack.
The Bulgarian club also confirmed that the Nigerian has been entrusted with the No. 9 shirt, traditionally reserved for the team's leading striker, underlining the confidence placed in him by the coaching staff.
Okoh becomes Botev Plovdiv's seventh signing of the summer transfer window, joining a list of new arrivals that includes Asen Chandarov, Georgi Milanov, Dimitar Tonev, Todor Nedelev, Bogdan Kostov and Timothy Awany, all of whom joined the club as free agents.
The Nigerian forward will also reunite with familiar faces at Botev Plovdiv, where he joins fellow Nigerians Samuel Kalu, Chimezie Williams, Ifenna Dorgu and Bryan Hein, further strengthening the club's growing Nigerian contingent.
Botev Plovdiv head into the new campaign in excellent form after recording three consecutive victories during their pre-season preparations.
The Yellow-Blacks will continue their build-up to the 2026/27 Bulgarian First League season with a friendly fixture against Chernomorets Burgas at the Nikola Shterev–Starika Football Complex, where Okoh could make his first appearance in Botev colours.
The move presents the Nigerian striker with another opportunity to establish himself in European football as he looks to make an immediate impact in Bulgaria and justify the club's decision to invest in his signature.
