Nigerian clubs set to discover continental opponents on Thursday
Nigeria's four representatives in the 2026/27 CAF Interclub competitions will discover their first continental assignments on Thursday, August 7, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the preliminary round draws at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The draw, which will be streamed live on CAF's official YouTube channel and broadcast by its media partners, will determine the opening fixtures for the country's flag bearers in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
The CAF Confederation Cup draw is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Cairo time (12:00 p.m. Nigerian time), while the CAF Champions League draw will follow an hour later at 3:00 p.m. Cairo time (1:00 p.m. Nigerian time).
Nigeria will be represented by NPFL champions Rangers International and Rivers United in the CAF Champions League, while Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and Elkanemi Warriors will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The new continental campaign gets underway with the first preliminary round. First-leg matches are slated for September 4–6, with the return fixtures taking place from September 11–13. Teams that progress will advance to the second preliminary round, scheduled for October 16–18, before the decisive return legs from October 23–25.
Beyond the race for continental glory, the stakes are also significant financially. The winners of the CAF Champions League will pocket a prize of $6 million, while the CAF Confederation Cup champions will receive $4 million.
CAF has also maintained its financial support for participating clubs, confirming that teams eliminated during the preliminary rounds will each receive a $100,000 solidarity payment, a move aimed at strengthening clubs and encouraging greater participation in its interclub competitions.
With the countdown to another exciting continental season underway, Nigeria's representatives will be hoping for favourable draws as they begin their quest to bring CAF silverware back home.
