Elizabeth Anyanacho clinches bronze at 2025 World Taekwondo Championships

Nigeria’s Elizabeth Anyanacho has added another milestone to her growing legacy, winning a bronze medal in the women’s 67kg category at the 2025 World Taekwondo Championships held in Wuxi, China.

The two-time Olympian, who represented Nigeria as the country’s sole Taekwondo athlete at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, once again demonstrated why she remains Africa’s top-ranked athlete in her division.

Anyanacho began her campaign with a hard-fought win over Klaudija Tvaronaviciute of Lithuania in the Round of 32 before overcoming Claudia Gallardo of Chile in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, she showed tactical brilliance and composure to edge Ozoda Sobirjonova of Uzbekistan in two tightly contested rounds, winning 8–6 and 10–9 to seal a 2–0 victory and a spot in the semifinals.

Despite a valiant effort, Anyanacho fell to Milena Titoneli of Brazil in the semifinals, settling for bronze. Hungary’s Luana Márton claimed gold, while Titoneli took silver, and Spain’s Lena Moreno joined Anyanacho on the podium with bronze.

Anyanacho’s feat in Wuxi not only underscores her consistency on the world stage but also reinforces her reputation as Africa’s leading Taekwondo star, continuing to inspire a new generation of athletes across the continent.
