Cristiano Ronaldo makes history at 2026 FIFA World Cup
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo has written another chapter in World Cup history after scoring at a record sixth tournament during Portugal’s clash with Uzbekistan on Tuesday, delivering a milestone performance on the global stage.
The 41-year-old forward had previously found the net in five separate editions of the competition—2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022—before extending that remarkable streak at the 2026 World Cup.
The goal also marked Ronaldo’s 24th World Cup appearance, bringing him closer to the all-time appearance leaders. Argentina captain Lionel Messi currently sits on 28 World Cup appearances, while Germany icon Lothar Matthäus holds 25.
With this latest strike, Ronaldo also becomes the second-oldest goalscorer in World Cup history, behind Cameroon legend Roger Milla.
The milestone comes after criticism following Portugal’s opening match against DR Congo, where Ronaldo was unable to score in a 1-1 draw that frustrated fans and analysts alike.
Despite that setback, his latest achievement reinforces his longevity at the highest level and places him alongside long-time rival Lionel Messi as one of football’s enduring stars continuing to shape the narrative of the 2026 World Cup.
