Team Nigeria set for Junior World Squash Championships
Team Nigeria has arrived in Canada ahead of the 2026 World Squash Junior Team Championships, with the nation's brightest young talents ready to battle for honours at the White Oaks Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, from July 26 to 31.
The Nigerian delegation comprises eight players four boys and four girls supported by two officials, as the country looks to make its mark on the global stage.
Leading the boys' team are national number one Yusuf Quadri and number two Shuaib Giwa, alongside Benjamin Monday and Joshua Daniel. The girls' squad is captained by national number two Mosturah Durosinlorun, with Khadija Abdulraheem, Awawu Balogun, and Delight Allison completing the lineup.
The team is headed by Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) President Sunday Wilson Egberipou, while the federation's Technical Director, Jonah Attah, also accompanies the contingent.
Nigeria's road to the championship began with an intensive training camp at Ikoyi Club 1938, where 17 promising juniors were invited after a rigorous selection process. The squad was later trimmed to 12 before the final phase of preparations moved to Abuja, where the final eight players earned their places on the team.
Action gets underway on Sunday, with the girls opening their Group 1 campaign against hosts Canada, while the boys begin their Group 7 challenge against Pakistan.
The girls will return to court on Monday to face Brazil, while the boys square off against Switzerland later the same day. Nigeria's girls will then conclude the group stage on Tuesday with a stern test against 12-time champions Egypt.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, NSF President Sunday Wilson Egberipou expressed confidence in the team's ability to compete, describing the selected players as the finest junior squash talents Nigeria has to offer.
NSF Executive Board member Yusuf Durosinlorun echoed that optimism, insisting the players are well prepared and fully aware of the significance of representing Nigeria on the world stage.
With months of preparation behind them, Team Nigeria will be aiming for a strong start as both the boys' and girls' teams begin their quest for success in Canada.
