D'Tigress surrender early advantage in heavy loss to Spain
Nigeria’s D’Tigress suffered a heavy 83-58 defeat to Spain after a dramatic second half collapse in their ongoing competition.
D’Tigress produced an impressive display in the opening half, controlling the tempo and taking the lead as they appeared capable of securing a positive result against the European giants.
However, the game changed completely after the interval as Spain returned with renewed intensity and took firm control of proceedings.
The Spanish side became increasingly clinical, converting their scoring opportunities with remarkable efficiency while Nigeria struggled to match their pace.
Almost every attempt from Spain appeared to find the basket as D’Tigress’ defence came under sustained pressure and their offensive rhythm faded.
Victoria Macaulay was Nigeria’s standout performer, leading the team with 18 points, but her individual contribution could not prevent D’Tigress from suffering a 25-point defeat.
The Nigerian side will now have an opportunity to respond when they take on Belgium in their next game, with a strong performance needed to revive their campaign.
