Didih smashes Commonwealth Games records to win gold for Nigeria

 

 

Nigeria's Onome Didih delivered a sensational performance to claim the women's 53kg weightlifting gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, breaking three Games records in the process.

 

Didih opened her campaign by lifting 93kg in the snatch, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. 

 

She then raised the bar again in the clean and jerk with a record-breaking 113kg lift, bringing her combined total to an unprecedented 206kg—another Commonwealth Games record with a total lift of 199kg to take silver. 

 

Canada's Rebeka Groulx claimed the bronze medal after recording a total of 178kg.

 

Her remarkable display secured a commanding victory ahead of India's Gyaneshwari Yadav, who finished with a total lift of 199kg to take silver.
