Minister Musawa mourns Nollywood icon Taiwo Hassan 'Ogogo'
The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Nigerian actor, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as “Ogogo.”
Musawa described the veteran actor as a towering figure in the Nigerian film industry whose discipline, talent and dedication contributed significantly to the growth of Nollywood and inspired generations of actors, directors and producers.
The minister said Ogogo was more than a screen star, describing him as a custodian of Nigerian culture and a prominent voice in Yoruba storytelling.
“Ogogo was not just a star on our screens. He was a custodian of our culture, a proud voice of Yoruba storytelling, and a man who dedicated his life to building the Nigerian creative industry,” Musawa said.
She noted that Hassan’s work brought Yoruba culture and cinema to audiences across Nigeria and beyond, while his films helped showcase the richness of the country’s heritage and traditions to the world.
“For many years, he made us laugh, made us think, and made us proud of who we are as Nigerians,” she added.
According to the minister, the Nigerian creative industry has lost a giant, but Ogogo’s legacy will endure through the films he left behind and the many lives he influenced throughout his career.
On behalf of the ministry, the wider creative community and stakeholders across the arts and culture sector, Musawa extended her condolences to Hassan’s family, colleagues in Nollywood, fans and the people of Ogun State.
She also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and the entire Nigerian film industry, asking that the soul of the late actor rest in perfect peace.
