Moses Usor sparks historic LASK comeback as Celtic suffer Champions League shock
Moses Usor was among the heroes as LASK staged one of the most remarkable comebacks in UEFA Champions League qualifying history, overturning a three goal first leg deficit against Celtic to reach the League Phase of the competition for the first time in the Austrian club’s history.
Trailing 3–0 from the first leg in Glasgow, LASK produced a stunning 5–1 victory after extra time at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz to complete a 5–4 aggregate triumph.
Celtic appeared to strengthen their advantage when Callum McGregor opened the scoring, but Usor pulled one back in the 32nd minute to ignite the Austrian side’s extraordinary fightback.
Usor later turned provider after the restart, setting up Robert Ljubičić for LASK’s second goal before Samuel Adeniran levelled the aggregate score with a spectacular long-range effort. Florian Flecker then struck late in regulation time to force the tie into extra time.
Adeniran completed LASK’s sensational turnaround with another goal in extra time, putting the hosts ahead on aggregate for the first time.
The forward finished with two goals despite missing a penalty and two other big chances.
Usor delivered an influential all round performance during his 99 minutes on the pitch.
The forward registered three shots, five key passes and one big chance created, completing 19 of 24 passes. He also attempted eight crosses, completed all four of his long-ball attempts, recorded 56 touches and made 13 carries as LASK relentlessly attacked Celtic’s defence.
The 5–1 victory secured a historic 5–4 aggregate success and sent LASK into the Champions League League Phase for the first time. The achievement caps a remarkable campaign for the club, who have also been crowned Austrian Bundesliga champions to complete a domestic double.
For Usor and his teammates, the victory represents a landmark European breakthrough as LASK prepare to take their place among Europe’s elite in the Champions League.
