SWAN to honour Ahudiyannem FC boss Robert Onyeani for sports development contribution
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is set to honour Ahudiyannem Football Club chairman, Dr. Robert Onyeani, for his contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria.
Onyeani is among a select group of individuals who will be recognised during the 2026 SWAN Triennial National Delegates Congress, scheduled to take place in Kaduna on Thursday.
The award recognises his sustained support for sports, particularly his investment in football through the sponsorship of two clubs — Ahudiyannem FC and Ahudiyannem Queens.
Ahudiyannem Queens currently compete in the top-flight Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, where they continue to establish themselves among the country's leading women's football clubs.
Onyeani has also contributed to the growth of women's football by hosting the 2025 NWFL Championship in Abiriba and Umuahia, Abia State.
His continued investment in football and support for athletes and clubs have earned him recognition within the Nigerian sporting community.
The SWAN honour is expected to further highlight Onyeani's commitment to using sports as a platform for talent development and creating opportunities for young Nigerians.
